ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Power Skating Pillars

  • Biomechanics
  • Edge work
  • Starts/Stops
  • Crossovers (to gain speed as well as evade opponents)
  • Backwards
  • Transitions from forward to backward + backward to forward
  • Mohawks/10 and 2s for efficiency

Puck Handling

Our objective with puck handling is to achieve 360 degrees of control when the puck is within a stick length of the player.

Once the puck is in a controlled position, the goal is to maintain control and momentum throughout deceptive moves and directional changes.

At elite levels, players are challenged to do so while minimizing reaction time when responding to opposing pressure.

Passing Pillars

  • Forehand
  • Backhand
  • Receiving Forehand
  • Receiving Backhand (cushion softly + one touch tap)
  • Saucer
  • Passing to a moving target
  • Passing to a moving target while in motion

Shooting Pillars

  • Wrist shot
  • Receive pass into wrist shot (aim to minimize the time it takes for a player to transfer the puck into a loaded position as a threat to pass or shoot)
  • Back hand
  • Snap shot
  • Slap shot

SESSION FORMAT

Sessions include a mixture of skating and puck handling. As players gain confidence with these skills, we will continue to challenge them, by adding passing and/or shooting to each drill.

Each session is high energy. To achieve optimal skill development, it is important players are having fun.

OUR PROGRAMS

TEAM SESSIONS

Skill coaches are used to supplement teams with player development. Allow Darcy to improve the skating, passing, puck handling, and shooting of your players- so you can focus on your team playing well as a unit.

If you are interested in a team session, please submit dates/times of sessions for approval to
